Day 7: Abu Simbel, Feluccas, & Nubian Village

This is going to be a pretty short entry.  It’s after 11:00 PM and we need to check out of the ship at 8:00 AM and of course we haven’t packed.  When I woke up this morning we were in Aswan and this was the view from my stateroom.  Pretty nice!!

Soon after, we took an Egypt Air flight to Abu Simbel—another over the top temple.  This one was built by our friend Ramses II, who seemed to have done more building than any other Pharaoh.  This is not surprising since he reined for over 60 years (I think).  It’s hard keeping all of this straight.

This temple for the god Ra and himself, Ramses II, was carved into the side of a mountain.

The artifacts inside are really well preserved, including more Ramses IIs.  The ceiling is pretty amazing here.

Next door is a temple of Hathor, who Ramses built to honor his wife Nefertari.

This is Hathor, with the cow's ears.

We then flew back to Aswan and took a felucca ride—they are very pretty sale boats.

We went to the botanical gardens and then sailed through the cataracts.

We arrived at a Nubian Village.  Most of these were wiped out by the building of the Aswan dam.
