The Literacy Association of South Africa conference has been
a real eye opener. In a supposedly
post-apartheid world, I heard teachers and researchers talking about few
resources and methods that I personally think impair literacy development. On the other hand, there are some really
stellar programs happening.
It surprised me that Volkswagen is a conference sponsor, but
they give huge amounts of money to township schools. This group of children started off the conference in English and isiXhosa.
All in all it was a really good conference.
I was sorry to leave our wonderful Blue Bay BnB.
It was great being with Peggy and Hilary.
